Yūko Saeki (冴木 由子, Saeki Yūko) is one of the minor characters of Gingitsune series. She was the 14th successor of the Saeki Shrine, the late wife of Tatsuo Saeki and the mother of Makoto Saeki who receives "The Sight", the day her daughter is born and she asks Gintaro to watch over Makoto in her stead.
Appearance[]
Yūko looks very much like Makoto Saeki, though unlike Gintaro's flashback (where she has a similar hair to Makoto's), she actually has long black hair.
Personality[]
Gintaro described Yūko as a very kind and polite lady.
History[]
Synopsis[]
Yūko was the person who had the sight before Makoto Saeki and she was a shrine maiden at the Saeki Shrine. Tatsuo Saeki fell in love with her and he left the brewing business his family had to his sister and husband where they later got married and had Makoto. Due to her illness, she died when Makoto was just four, leaving her with The Sight and Gintarou.
She is mentioned a few times in the story, mostly people commenting that Makoto looks like her.
Relationships[]
Abilities[]
Like Makoto Saeki and Satoru Kamio, Yūko had The Sight - the ability to see and speak to heralds and she was also a very good shrine maiden.
Quotes[]
I'm sorry, all I have is a tangerine.
Etymology[]
- The name Yūko means "reason, case, cause" (由) (yū) and "child" (子) (ko).
- Yūko's surname Saeki means "clear, serene, cold, skillful, clear" (冴) (sae) and "tree, wood" (木) (ki).
Trivia[]
- According to Tatsuo Saeki, Yūko had a fragile health and weak body, which had lead her to choose to be a shrine maiden [1].
- Unlike Makoto Saeki, Yūko had long black hair.
